About This Coffee
 
This exceptional coffee comes from the Mahiga Factory in Kenya's globally renowned Nyeri County. Nestled along the lower edge of the ascending national forests of Mt. Kenya—the continent's second-tallest peak—the factory benefits from the high elevations and mineral-rich volcanic soil necessary to craft some of the best coffees in the world. Mahiga operates under the Othaya Farmers Cooperative Society, supporting 400 dedicated smallholder members who meticulously cultivate these lots.
 
We are particularly proud of how we sourced this coffee. Frustrated by the lack of transparency and price volatility in the traditional multinational auction system, Falcon partnered with a local Kenyan company to cup and bid on our behalf. This conscious decision not only supports local businesses and increases supply chain efficiency, but it also represents our first step toward building fully direct, transparent relationships with Kenyan farmers and cooperatives.
 
Kenya is celebrated for its meticulous processing, and the Mahiga Factory is a shining example. They utilize the region's ample supply of fresh, cold river water to thoroughly wash and soak the coffee according to longstanding traditions. This intensive washing and rigorous density sorting results in a pristine, bright white parchment and a remarkably clean, vibrant cup profile.
 
Cup score: 86.5. We've roasted this coffee pretty light, and it makes for a bright, fruity espresso as well as a banging filter coffee!
