About This Coffee
This brilliant lot comes from the Karumandi Factory, situated on the slopes of Mt. Kenya in the renowned Kirinyaga region. Run by the Mukurwe Farmers Cooperative Society, Karumandi brings together hundreds of smallholder farmers who cultivate traditional SL28 and SL34 varieties in mineral-rich volcanic soils.
Kenya is famous for its meticulous washing methods, and this Peaberry (PB) lot is a great example of that craft. After sorting only the ripest cherries, the factory uses crisp, cold river water to thoroughly wash and soak the coffee, locking in a remarkably clean and structured profile.
It’s an 86.5-scoring coffee that offers a lovely balance of bright acidity and deep sweetness. You get orange up front, followed by brown butter and a smooth amaretto finish. It makes for a brilliantly vibrant filter brew or a punchy, complex espresso.
